Wooly Skirt

It's getting really cold and wet here all of a sudden. I sort of hoped that in South East England the summer would hang around for a bit longer.

When I was little and watched the weather report on TV it seemed to always be raining on the West coast of Scotland and always be really sunny and warm in London and the South East. I thought that, since the news and weather were being reported from London, the weather man was making the weather nice for himself and giving everyone else bad weather. Now I know it was probably true, it is not nicer here, they just say it is...

So since winter is rolling in it's time to break out the wooly jumpers and scarves right? But what if your bum is cold?! Yes, you need a wooly skirt.
I bought a really great wool skirt from Urban Outfitters in January from Urban Renewal. It is a recycled jumper with a brilliant pattern. I want more of them in lots of brilliant patterns in time for winter. So I decided to recycle a jumper. It was a tough first cut because I REALLY liked the jumper as a jumper, but sacrifices must be made. I bought it from a charity shop for about £4, I'm going to go hunting for more on Saturday!

It's really simple to do. I just cut under the arms all the way round and attached a band of elastic to the top. Voila

Blog Life

I'm so new to this whole blogging thing that I haven't actually been sure what I want to achieve from it. At first it was purely to have somewhere to keep track of all this things I was planning on making. Since I've read others' blogs and seen what they post and the way they inspire so many people it has made me want to write more and do more to add to the "blogging community".

My posts may not have any great relevance to anyone or be very insightful, but if people enjoy reading them, or see something I’ve made and want to try it themselves, I think it’d be pretty cool.
So I wasn’t sure how to go about getting more people to actually read my blog. I post it on my Facebook occasionally and comment on blog posts that I’ve really enjoyed or connected with, but past that I didn’t want to be one of those people that just post links to my blog everywhere. Mainly because I don’t know that my blog is good enough to do that.

I read all the blogs I follow daily and really enjoy taking a peek into the lives of these girls that seem to have such great opinions on things, writing helpful and interesting posts, as well as looking amazing all the time. I don’t really know how they do it. Two bloggers that I really look up to are Lauren at Noir Nouvelle and Charlene at Dainty Dresses. They both have great styles and a mixture of brilliant pictures with great writing makes reading their blogs so easy and enjoyable.

I asked these girls for some advice on blogging and about how to get in the scene a bit more and some of the advice I’ve got already is going to be really helpful so I wanted to say thank you properly for that!

Pretty in Blue

The first dress I made with my new machine. I love the colour. I wasn't sure how to deal with attaching the skirt to the top as it was a longer length of material so I didn't want to restrict the elasticated waist. I've ended up just hand sewing them together so that the skirt keeps it's bunchiness. I might figure out how to attach them properly soon.. But I still think it looks pretty good :)

My new sewing machine arrived! It is so pretty and works reall well, I just need to get to know it better I think :)

So today I was trying out some stuff and I made a Giant Microbe of the Neisseria gonnorhoeae virus (similar to this Gonorrhea plush) out of felt. I think it's quite cute..

80s Silvery dress

I bought this dress on eBay thinking it was about a size 12, it arrived and it was MASSIVE. And because I'd got the perspective wrong it was also really long, and I don't suit mid-calf dresses since I'm really short anyway. So I have been meaning to take it in and up for a while and I finally got round to it
the other day.
This is the finished result, I forgot to take a before picture in my rush of excitment for finally doing some actual sewing:

I tried sewing something small last night and my machine did it's stupid tempramental jamming and snapping of the thread. Usually after a bit of tampering it works, but it didn't this time. I think I might invest in a new small machine, nothing fancy probably ony of the portable wee John Lewis ones like this:

Small and simple and in a cool colour. And it's only £59 which is mega cheap.
I think it will be my next purchase :)

UPDATE (10 minutes or so later) I just bought that.....

ooohhhhhh... PANTS

I finished the pants I've been knitting, they're nice and soft.
I've also sorted a bunch of stuff to sell on ebay and things I want to make into things so I will be sewing some stuff either tomorrow or next weekend. Hopefully this blog will be updated much more often when I get into more of a routine.
I'll be able to get my bike this week too and that's pretty exciting, I'll post a picture when I get it :)

Disc Decorations

My room is complete, I have my stuff.  I've been getting settled in quite a bit and made friends and stuff which is cool (we wear moustaches together).

The riots are starting to freak me out a bit, it's crazy that this sort of stuff is happenning so close to where I'm living..
