Getting ready to Graduate

So I have not posted in a record length of time!! This year has been increasingly hectic with uni, but totally worth all the effort as I got a first class degree which will be awarded this coming Thursday!

Dundee University, along with many if not all other Scottish universities, does not keep with the tradition of mortar boards or Grad caps. This news was disappointing as all we wear on the day is a gown and specific colour of hood or collar. So I decided to make my own cap for the purposes of head warmth and visual appeal.

Anyhoo, will hopefully update with other creations, or just pictures of my graduation, soon. And mayybe soon I'll also have more TIME to make more wonders and write up some patterns and stuff.. I can live in hope! :)

Knitted Goodies

I'm back up in Scotland again and am doing my best to keep up with uni work as well as making a few bits and pieces when I get the chance.

My Mum threw away my car keyring :( . It was a wee leather elephant from thailand, sort of a mini toy all hand stitched together. The bit of leather holding it onto the metal came loose and I put it on my counter at home to sew up the next day. When I went to sew it it was gone and my Mother confessed to putting it in the bin.. without even asking.
So I needed a new keyring and decided to knit one:

I also saw a lovely knitted iPad/laptop case online, but it cost loads and I thought "Why don't I just make one?". So I pottered along to Hobbycraft and got some cheap sale yarn (£2 a ball, score) that was nice and thick and soft and knitted some double moss stitch sides, darned them together and added a button. Done:

And that is pretty much all I've done. I did buy a pattern for a dress and am hoping to get a chance during my reading week to get that started, but I'm so busy with uni stiff that it's already a miracle I managed to finish these!

Ball Dress

I've been invited to a Summer Ball in a couple of weeks so I decided to save some pennies! I have bags of material that I've meant to use for ages, the coral-red material I used on the first red dress I made last January, came in hand for this.

I still haven't tried using a pattern, I just cut and hope, I'll need to try one at some point soon I think.

Alterations & New Creations

Once again it's been a while since my last post, but here are some of the many things I've been doing lately..
I made some pierogies, they were delicious and I baked 40-something cakes for a charity cake sale at work.

I went to a vintage sale in London and bought a couple of things that I altered from a floral pair of trousers into a skirt and from a floor length, long sleeved summer dress into a playsuit:

I've been meaning to make my sister a dress similar to this one for AGES and have had the fabric for it sitting around for a while. I finally got round to doing it today and now that I've finished it I want one for myself... that might be next weekend's task, I'm tired now!

Hats for House-Elves

I've made a couple more hats, one for my Mum and one for my Dad. They're really warm, when I get a chance I may make myself one..

Also some pictures of the cushions and sewing machine that I spoke about in my last post.

Recent Happenings

Yet again I think I'll post quickly and I just don't. Oops. Well I've done a bit, but really I don't have much to show for my 2 month absence.
Here's what I do have though:

My flatmates and I had a Burns Night meal and I made us some Whiskey-rich Cranachan which was lovely. Then for Valentines Day I baked some strawberry cupcakes, that had strawberries in the centre as well as on top, they were a bit gooey but pretty good regardless.

My Dad has requested a knitted hat and, since I'm not seeing him until mid-March, I took the early notice as an opportunity to practice a pattern I found. I made the hat below for my friend Aaron and also made one (quite quickly) for a tattooist as I was waiting for a friend.
Now I think I've figured out the sizings my Dad will need and the brim I'll need to add for it not to be a beanie and to be "Dad-Appropriate" I'm set to start his. Hopefully (no promises) it won't be long until my next post.
I'm working on a cross-stitch, have made 3 Cath Kidston patchwork cushions and have the patches for a small quilt too. Maybe I'll get a chance to finish these projects in the near future.

Oh I don't know if I've mentioned but my Dad bought me a Husqvarna Viking machine on eBay! It's a lovely machine to use, I just wish I had more time to use it! It's effectively ruined my hopes of a 1st class degree next year as I'll just want to spend all of my time at home sewing!
It's times like these that I wish I were a 50s housewife.

Over and out!

Ravenclaw

I's taken me a while and I've had lots of garter stitch practice, but I've finished my Ravenclaw scarf.

It is so warm and soft and I love it! I may have to wear it throughout the summer too :)
